On the bottom right, the signature on this note is of Samuel Slater. As discussed elsewhere, Slater is considered the father of the American industrial revolution. Unfortunately, this signature is a forgery, although Slater was indeed president of the bank for a time.
The inscription on the back reads, “Found in a house in Sterling, Massachusetts that was torn down about the year 1835,” although that might just be a tall tale from yesteryear.
