Slater Bank $10
July 1, 1862. Durand 866, Haxby RI-205 G8b
Serial #206. Plate A.
“An impressive and very rare type that originally came from the Newman Collection. Notes from this rare bank are among the most attractive of all Rhode Island Obsoletes. Nearly all were redeemed by the successor Slater National Bank of Pawtucket.
“Wellstood, Hanks, Hay & Whiting engraved the plates for this distinguished layout. A custom view of Pawtucket Falls and mills with the bridge over the river and buildings on each side is flanked by vibrant green ‘X’ protectors. A portrait of the eponymous Samuel Slater is at the lower left. The note is bright, and well-margined.”
